Description

These homemade red velvet Oreo cookies are soft, chewy, and packed with cocoa, crushed Oreo cookies, and semisweet chocolate chips. Their vibrant red color and rich chocolate flavor make them a delicious treat for holidays, parties, and everyday baking.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/2 cups (313 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup (21 g) Dutch-processed cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 3/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 cup (227 g) unsalted butter, melted and cooled
  • 2 large eggs
  • 3/4 cup (165 g) light brown sugar, packed
  • 3/4 cup (150 g) granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon red gel food coloring
  • 1/4 cup Oreo cookie crumbs (about 3 Oreo cookies)
  • 6 crushed Oreo cookie pieces (6 Oreo cookies blended into bite-sized pieces, plus more for topping)
  • 3/4 cup semisweet chocolate chips, plus more for topping

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, Dutch-processed cocoa powder, baking soda, cornstarch, and kosher salt until evenly combined.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk the cooled melted butter with the light brown sugar and granulated sugar until smooth.
  3. Add the eggs and vanilla extract, then whisk until well combined. Mix in the red gel food coloring until the color is evenly distributed.
  4. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and stir with a spatula until mostly incorporated.
  5. Fold in the Oreo cookie crumbs, crushed Oreo pieces, and semisweet chocolate chips. Mix just until no dry flour remains.
  6. Scoop the dough into evenly sized portions and arrange on a parchment-lined baking sheet, leaving space between each cookie for spreading.
  7. Press additional Oreo pieces and chocolate chips onto the tops of the dough portions, if desired.
  8. Bake in a preheated oven using the original recipe’s specified temperature and baking time, until the edges are set and the centers remain slightly soft.
  9. Allow the cookies to rest briefly on the baking sheet before transferring them to a wire rack to cool.

Notes

  • Use cooled melted butter to help maintain the proper dough consistency.
  • Gel food coloring gives the cookies a vibrant red color without adding excess liquid.
  • Avoid overbaking; the centers will continue to set as the cookies cool.
